I, Juliana Mdamvetsa Lunguzi, was born on 19th December 1971 to a policeman and former Chief of Police, Mr Maximiano William Lunguzi, and Gertrude Sungani Lunguzi, a devoted mother and wife.
I am a Registered Nurse/Midwife with a career in public health and development management who has excelled because of a high work ethic and sense of civic duty.
From the early age of ten, I was known for my compassion and leadership. I have further developed these virtues in school, through university, during my work with the Malawi government and as a Specialist with the United Nations.
My impetus for leadership comes from a conviction that every individual has the potential to better their life, given an opportunity and my belief that the gifts I have are not mine to enjoy alone, but for all humanity.
Professionally, I have a consistent track record of notable accomplishments. From 2002, I have successfully led several national and international initiatives within the health and youth sectors and collaborated with others in other development sectors on public health and rights issues. I am a team player with a strong results-orientation.
I have led multi-scale operations, including in emergency and crisis situations. In 2010 my leadership was duly recognized by my colleagues in the UN family. I was elected to the office of President of the UN Staff Association in Malawi - a role I served in with distinction.
As a manager I have vast experience managing projects, managing people, managing financial and material resources. I am a disciplined and skilled planner and operations management expert.
I have hands on experience in knowledge management, process and networks facilitation; proven capability to work with people of different faiths, race, gender, cultural background, and nationalities and I am a knowledge driven quick learner, proactive and with proclivity for finesse in all my undertakings.
Values which I hold dear are Respect for others, Integrity, and a relentless pursuit for Excellence.
I am also a life-long advocate for Women and the Girl Child. I have during the course of my career, invested on advocating for women and girls child issues, who as you may be aware, are the most marginalized in our communities and country.
With respect to developing communities I can comfortably work and interact upstream (policy debate, formulation and implementation) and down stream (in the community). My knowledge of the dynamics of decentralization and the challenges facing decentralization in Malawi will, if elected as a member of parliament serve not only Dedza East, but Malawi as a whole.
In this regard, I am very well positioned to serve Malawi at the policy and legislative level and communities and local authorities so that together, we can own and lead the development of our society. My dedication and contribution, if elected as a member of parliament, will be governed by the principles of sustainable development and democracy plus my pillars (available on this link).
